Romain Gauthier
Every once in a while, a brand like Romain Gauthier sees the light of day. When that happens, we are celebrating. Embracing the fact that there are still creative geniuses there to be found and acknowledged. They bring creativity and a little craziness into the industry and that’s what we like.

Being a well-known brand for over 10 years now, we have seen a lot of great timepieces coming from the Romain Gauthier workbench in the Vallée de Joux. We’ve loved – and still do – the Prestige HMS Ten with its flat case back crown, as well as the Logical One. Both creations with a very sharp design and great technical aspects.

Now, another cool creation has been introduced by the brand: the Romain Gauthier Insight Micro-Rotor. A brand’s first with a micro-rotor and boy, it looks as stunning as ever. There will be a total of 60 pieces created of this model. 30 of which will come in a 18k Red Gold case with NAC-treated movement and 30 which will come in a 950 Platinum case with a Palladium-treated movement.

Looks
To be honest, the first impression is very good. I like the fact that they used different interfaces on this watch, resulting in a special effect regarding the depth of the design. The 22k golden micro-rotor is a playful element in this timepiece. No matter what taste you have, it’s always cool to be able to see so many moving parts in a watch.

As the Logical One, this Insight Micro-Rotor also carries a subtle crown at 2 o’clock. The overall look of this timepiece does make me think of steampunk. The combination of smooth curves, modern-day techniques and the classy oven-fired enamel dial at the top centre displaying the time using Roman numerals. The combination of this aspect gives me that vibe – I like it.

The case is very smooth and makes the timepiece very elegant. It measures about 12.9mm in height (taken at the centre of the watch) and knows a diameter of 39.5mm. A very nice size which makes this watch the perfect option to use as a dress watch, but also be a bit more anti-mainstream.

Different tastes for different people
If you like the Insight Micro-Rotor, but you dislike the white enamel dial, no problem. Each of the two models will be available with oven-fired white enamel, but also black enamel and blue enamel. This means that each case (red gold or platinum) will have 10 versions of each colour of enamel. Now, if you can’t choose we can understand that, but you can’t dislike it either.

Besides that, the watch comes with 18k white gold hands or flamed-blued hands, depending on the case you’ve chosen. It fits around your wrist with an alligator-leather strap that’s handstitched in Switzerland – good to know – and can either fit a white gold pin buckle or red gold pin buckle. This, of course, depends on the material you chose for the case.
