When starting a conversation about watches, most of the time you will hear ‘Swiss made’ and that’s just.. well heritage. Watches and all other things that have anything to do with time find their origin in Switzerland. Over the years it became a sort of quality demand. When your watch was Swiss made, it had to be good no doubt about that. It still is, but there’s more ready to be found and appreciated in this beautiful world. New watches pop up every day and it’s up to you as a watch enthusiast to go out and explore these unfound gems.

You see, judging a world of watches by things that you see or hear isn’t what makes your experience grow. Back in the days people believed our beautiful mother earth was flat.. well, you know how that story goes. The same can be said about the world of watches. Of course, great achievements and high quality watches will be in the spotlight because they are great. However, there are so much more brands with great visions or nice movements we don’t even hear about, it’s up to you to discover them. Let me be the nice guy that helps you and tell you something about Atelier de Chronométrie Barcelona. A watch brand finding its origins in the minds of Santiago Martínez and Moebius Rassmman.

When seeing the design, you probably think: simplicity. Well, we couldn’t agree more, it’s quite simple indeed. Now, who said that simplicity cannot be great? In my opinion this watch has it all. For starters, it’s made of high-quality materials and lives on a movement that serves the purpose of a high-end watch: the hand-wound Omega Calibre 266. What do they say about ‘never change a winning team’.. exactly.

Now, what is it that makes this watch special? First of all, you have to like the design, that’s rather important isn’t it? People who buy a watch without liking the design probably have a lot of money to blow or just don’t know what they are doing. Nothing wrong with that though, living life to the fullest. Anyways, I like the design, so that chapter of the book is already good. Chapter two: what makes this watch better or more beloved than other comparable watches? Here comes the fun part. You see, there’s a reason why Bentley and Rolls Royce create cars and then give their customers the opportunity to customize them – people want something that’s unique. If you walk out the door and your neighbours have the exact same watch as you have, well for some individuals that could be considered as offensive. We men, we are men when it comes to almost every situation you can think of, except for a situation like this. Sometimes our female side pops up and reminds us of the fact that it’s not cool to have something that other people have too. I will not pop your bubble by telling I’m talking about ‘we’ to make you feel good, but okay.

The Observatoire Chronometer can be customized in a lot of different ways, all for the purpose to fit the customers wish list. The gentlemen behind this new brand want to give their customers an unique journey for each watch they order. Giving them the opportunity to customize the interior and exterior. The Omega movement has been modified and ‘pimped’ in a way Atelier de Chronométrie likes. The case can be ordered in rose gold, yellow gold and white gold, or for the less decisive people amongst us: a combination of these three. For a less expensive choice, stainless steel is also an option. Measurements can be adjusted from 35mm to 38,5mm. These diameters are perfect, not too big and small enough to remind you of the dress watches from the 20th century. Now, a nice little detail can be found in the case backs. There are two options to be chosen: a see-through case back and a snap on case back. The reason why the creators chose a snap on case back instead of a screw case back is quite simple. Since this movement beats at 18.000 vph, you can hear the tick tack sound of this watch. Well, isn’t that a nice little detail. I mean, we love the mechanical part of this type of watches, hearing this sound makes it even more beloved. Creating a waterproof case would dim this noise and that would be a pitty, wouldn’t it sir?

So as said, it could be a watch made to meet your requirements, but there’s more. At the moment can be ordered in three different styles: a silver two-tone dial, a rose gold two-tone dial and a glossy black one with silver signature and scales. As a standard, all dials are ‘galvanic’ and have engine-turned sub seconds. If a customer has specific wishes regarding the dial, it can be fit to the customers wishes all in line with the vision of Atelier de Chronométrie Barcelona. There are different variations of straps too. Coming with a special kind of leather of your choice and a handmade buckle in 18k rose, yellow and white gold or – of course – stainless steel. For the leather, there can be decided to pick reptile leather, oak leather and ostrich leather. If you’re into animals or you just don’t like a leather bracelet, you could order an 18k gold ‘rice beads’ bracelet. Do not say you don’t have many choices. I bet you feel like a kid in a candy store.

Of course this all comes with a price tag, but you have to remember you get the possibility to wear a high-quality watch with a great movement and superb finishing. When ordering a watch from Atelier de Chronométrie, you should know there’s an estimated delivery time of approximately 8 months. All watches come with a 5 year warranty, so you don’t have to worry about anything. So, to give you the last bit of information you were probably waiting for: the watch comes with a starting price of 36.000 euros. For this amount you get the watch shown in the picture. It certainly is lot of money, but let’s be honest, individuality comes with a price. Special things carry special prices. I am excited to see how this watch will be welcomed.
